Interior Alaska Oil

PRA personnel have assisted several Alaska regional native corporations in evaluating oil and gas potential in the Alaskan interior basin (Doyon, Calista). Projects include:

Nenana
Evaluation of the economic feasibility of oil and gas development. This ongoing project involves:

  • A review of geologic field studies
  • Well and seismic data
  • Interpretations of this data
  • Production of surface and subsurface maps and cross sections
  • Summarize risk and potential of petroleum development
  • Develop drillable prospects
  • Well design and construction management for Nunivak #2 exploration well

Yukon Flats
Evaluation of the economic feasibility of oil and gas development. This ongoing project involves:

  • A review of geologic field studies
  • Full interpretation of USGS reprocessed seismic data
  • Production of time and depth structure, and isopach maps
  • Summarize risk and potential of petroleum development
  • Expelled hydrocarbon play types
  • Tract definition, evaluation, and ranking
  • Design and oversight of 2D and 3D seismic survey acquisition and processing
  • Interpretation of seismic data

Bethel
Evaluation of the economic feasibility of oil and gas development. This ongoing project involves:

  • A review of geologic field studies
  • Well and seismic data
  • Interpretations of this data
  • Production of surface and subsurface maps cross sections
  • Summarize risk and potential of petroleum development

Healy Area
PRA organized and led field trips to examine outcrop examples of different types of fluvial sequences in the Nenena Basin and to use field observations to predict reservoir perfomance, lateral continuity of facies, and wireline responses. Key aspects discussed include:

  • Continuity of sand shale packages
  • Sedimentary features and their influence on fluid flow
  • Scale up of logs and core data to outcrop and reservoir scale
  • Seismic expression of a thick fluvial section
  • Effects of faulting on stratigraphy and reservoir communication
